Default Need some advice for Cam (Ls1)

So i am looking to put a small/mild cam in my 2000 z28, the motor is stock and has 72k miles on it. I would like to get something decent but still small enough to not have to change injectors and stall converter (kinda just going for sound and a lil performance). Looking to spend 500-1k, I was wondering if anyone would have an idea of wut ratio/spec cam i should go and the lifters i should get, thanks for the help Chris

We have a 220/220 115+4 that would work well with a stock converter. It's available in the camshaft blowout thread. You could get that combo for just over $500 & have money let to get a verter down the road!

If you want sound and a little performance do exhaust front to back, do an after market intake, and a Diablo tune or something. These mods can be done with out having to break your motor apart and your looking about probably 1 to 2 tenths maybe 3 in your 1/4 mile and about 5 mph. All this can be done in your home and you can save up.

A cam exchange and you have 72K miles on the clock, you are going to need;

1. Springs - LS6 cheapest 55.00 (.580 max lift)
2. Lifter/trays - LS1/LS6 stock 99.00
3. Pushrods 120.00
4. Tune - 400.00
5. Cam - 500.00
6. Valves Maybe depends on their condition.
7. Installation - If your going to do it yourself great if not your looking at a minimum of $800 (conservative) because the Z28 your going to have to remove the heads/intake manifold and put back.
8. Head bolts/ studs (Stock cant be re used)
9. Head gaskets, water pump gaskets, front main seal and so on.
10. Your close to 80 K so an oil pump also would be in the works.
11. Timing chain
12. Fluids and so on and so on...

and your looking at 15 to 20 HP max difference. Conservative you looking at 2K.

You can get American Racing exhaust headers and Y Pipe for bout 1300 Diablo for about $370 new for the ' 00 Z28 and intake for about 200 new. this you can do it all your self and your looking ta 10 to 15 hp.

My stock 1/4 was 14.2 at 99mph and a 60ft you could use a sun dial to time. This was on a stock C5 A4 w/ C6 rims (18/19 street tires).

With a Diablo, intake (black Wing) w/ stock air bridge and my exhaust was cutting 2 cats off a home made X pipe I ran 13.2@ 109 w/ a 2.0 60ft. Same stock C6 rims and street tires.

Do the math.
