LS6 valley cover install - don't cut block!!!
There is at least one post here that discusses an LS6 valley cover install that caused oil burning issues as a result of aluminum chips contaminating the oil.... this install was done by cutting the aluminum engine block so the new valley cover fits....
....I did not cut my engine block. Rather, I cut a 4" piece of black plastic from the new cover and spliced in a piece of copper tubing ...sealing it with PVC sealer...
This has worked great and does not run the risk of getting aluminum shavings in the motor.....
If you are considering an LS6 valley cover - DON'T CUT YOUR ALUMINUM BLOCK!

That post discusses the POSSIBILITY of that happening, and it was posted by *** as a possible explanation of what is wrong with the motor.
Plenty of people have done this mod and cut their blocks with no problems. Saying not to do so is like saying do not port your TB, do not port your heads, do not port your MAF, etc. If the proper measures are taken to avoid metal shavings dropping into the block or otherwise getting into the engine, no problem with cutting the block at all. That motor has other problems worse than the valley cover, IMO. (FWIW, unless the "shaving" is actually a "chunk", chances are it would either burn off or end up in the filter anyways).

The valley cover does help prevent oil from being sucked into the intake....
...the problem with oil consumption was discussed in another post where an engine bulder claims the aluminum shavings got into the oil and caused piston ring sealing problems... the owner not builder installed the valley cover...
....not sure if this is a ploy to ignor a warranty claim but, why cut the engine block if their is another easier more effective way to install this mod?
