Default Engine overhaul

Fellas ive been having my 98 t/a since 2001. I have about 140,000 miles on it, and everything ran like a champ until it was unknowingly drivin with very low oil. I think a pushrod, or rocker is damaged you can hear a knocking on the right side. Well since there is so many miles, and of course the obvious problem I want to yank that sucker out and make it brand new again, but with much more horses. Whats the best way to get around 450 at the wheels, and still have a stock sound, is it possible? I really dont want to drive around in a loud *** race car ya know. It will be a secondary car something to pull out on the weekends. Who's a good sponser to contact about transmission upgrades also? Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

yeah let us know what your willing to spend. and i think you can get your 450 without it being loud. (crank hp) probably 400 to the wheels.

pat g did a cam for someone in an old ford i think, he was limited to stock manifolds. but had an eps cam and 243's on an ls1 and got 400 to the wheels...

5-10k would do the trick (depending on how much you do yourself) and theres a small list of places that can help... (located on the right side of this page) lol.

yeah a budget would be more beneficial to those trying to point you in the right direction.

Well I figured I can budget about 6k for the engine if that's what it takes. My dad and his friends can do most of the taking apart and placing back together. Any machining of course would be done at a shop. I know it's personal preference but is 450 at the wheels too much for a street car. Ima prob overhaul the whole vehicle also. Thanks guys

No, IMO that is not too much for the street, 800+ thats getting a little crazy.

I have seen numerous AFR 205s massaged/milled with a 228ish cam get around 450rwhp and the driveability would still be very nice as well as with the right exhaust, stealthy. The higher compression will pop though and to anyone who knows what they're listening for, a dead giveaway for high compression.

Fast (MAYBE LS6) intake, high quality long tubes (Kooks), quality merge on the Y-pipe (Flowmaster), tune, maybe an ATI crank pulley and all supporting hardware. I would think that would easily net your 450 at the tire through a 6 speed. You may need to clutch and hydraulics to handle that power though. Mine started slipping @ 400 to the rear tire. Never did get a quality dyno pulls out of 4th, but I will head back soon.
