Question Weird low oil pressure at startup... please help :(

This started today after racing it at the strip yesterday. It's my friend's 1998 C5... He has only tested it around 4 times since it's a low oil pressure issue.

When he starts the car, the oil pressure gauge will take a while to go up instead of going up almost instantly like normal. It stays at 0psi for a short while... the longest it has stayed at 0 psi has been almost for 15 seconds then it went up...

This only happenes after the car has been sitting for a whlie. If he starts it right away after turning it off, it will go up like it always does. He has only tested it with a warm engine since the problem started today. He didn't notice if it was working normally this morning.

He's using 5w 50 full synthetic oil and K&N oil filter... he did an oil change a couple of weeks ago and didn't have any issues until today, the day after racing it.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

BTW, car has 70K miles and is completely stock... I think it was the first time he was racing it since he bought it!

id try hooking up a mechanical oil pressure gauge and see if it still does it. could be the oil pressure sending unit on its way out.

Werd, first step in any oil pressure problem on these LS1s is a mechanical gauge.

where the oil cooler line is above the oil filter. Or where the oil pressuer send is.
