Default LQ4/9 spun cam bearing. Can it be fixed with gen IV Bearing??

I read somewhere (someones post in here) that a spun cam bearing in a gen III iron block motor can be fixed by using gen IV bearings. Is this true and how is it acomplished? Can the gen III cam be used or need a gen IV? I run across these motors as cores at the dealership all the time for $300 for the long block. I only pick them up if I know I have a good block that needs internals or heads. If I could fix them then it is a different story! Thanks in advance.
