The general population of this site pretty much installs it straight up. What combo are you going to be running?

I did mine. Ensures cam is installed per the cam card and can pick up if something is wrong with the grind. Also, while TDC is known it is a good time to check PTV.

I degree'd mine. It's a way to make sure the cam is correctly installed and will let you check piston-valve clearance as well, so it's pretty important to check. I've seen a 408 lose about 200hp because the cam was two teeth off. Stock motors aren't so lucky.

^^These two guys above me nailed it. It's not a magical thing you do to make more power. It simply ensures the cam is installed as prescribed. If your timing set is machined incorrectly, or you install the cam a tooth off, you can be way down on power as well as run the risk of major piston to valve clearance issues! Degreeing is simply checking to make sure it is in there correctly!
