5.3l hot cam question
First off I'd like to thank all the people here at LS1Tech. I have learned alot while building my 69' Camaro and gathered much mire info for future use.
dumI am currently building a 5.3l engine that I pulled from a 02' silverado. Engine I being converted to a carburetor sys and is all stock. My question is what exactly do I need for a cam swap? Do I need to swap lifters and gasgets also? I already have the cam, springs, and rods. I was told that was all I was going to need for the swap for this specific cam, but now I'm wondering if I'm going to need lifters also. Here are the specs of all the stuff that I've bought so far. Thank you guys.
• LS1 Hot camdum
Specs are 218/228 .525.525dum
on a 112 lsa.
• GM performance ls1 yellow honeycomb springs.
PN:12499224 90LBS@ 1.8in., 295LBS @ 1.250in., .570in Max Lift.
• Trick Flow Rodsdum
PN:TFS-21407425. 5/16in Diameter, 7.425in length

eramos, if you're doing the swap on the cheap you can reuse the stock gaskets for the valve covers, timing covers and water pump. i've reused those on several cars.
you will not need new lifters, the stock lifters will work fine.

No need to change the lifters.
Changing lifters means pulling heads; $$ in head gaskets and bolts; easily doubles the amount of work to be done as well.
I would like to see a picture of those "honeycomb" springs however.

Technicalninja- haha I just now noticed that I guess my phone automatically changed it yo honeycomb. You know what meant. I live in haltom city. I know exactly where your at, maybe 10 mins away from me. What are you working on? Do you know of anyone in this area that will install these parts. I've been to several shops most of them won't mess with it and the ones that will are charging crazy $$$. Engine in pulled and stripped, ready to just swap and calibrate.
