Default What should a new cam look like?

I've got my new cam, but in between the lobes, it's got these black/brown looking specs all over. What is this and should it be there on a new cam? I tried seeing if it would come off with my finger, but it doesn't. Sorry if this is a completely stupid question, but I'm fairly new to all of this.

It sounds like a little oxidation just spray some lubricant or rub some oil on it until you install it

Lifters don't run in-between the lobes

Thanks guys. The lobes are fine, so I guess it's good to go. Does the oxidation happen when a cam sits for a while?
