WHat is a good Head/Cam package?
Hey guys i have a 2000 trans am and i want to do a head/cam swap.. What is a good street package...i want a package that will put me around 420-450whp..I was looking at texas speed and they have some combo packs..i would not be doing the swap...i would take it to a local performance shop to have it done...by the way i live in troy michigan so if anyone knows a good shop that deals with ls1's please let me know.

Assuming you have bolts on done already(intake/exhaust), the PRC stage 2.5 heads and something like a 228r will put you in the neighborhood of the HP you are looking for and still be a nice car to drive on the street.

I say PatG cams. Awesome drivability, WELL underestimated cams and makes gobbs of power for what it is. Ask me how I know... All I have is ported 243 heads and a "baby" 224/228 cam with a 102 intake, 42# injectors and a RT255 pump.
I have numbers now, but they're not final yet... There'll be proof at the end of this coming week..

I originally made 414/372 at TSP throuh a stock fuel system and an LS6 intake. But I don't think they tuned it right. it pulled 404/382 or something on the Slowhawk Mustang dyno at sealevel. Not surre if the altitude change made that big of a difference though.
But I'm WELL over that now.
PatG pulled 460/440 with this (his) cam when he first spec'd it but that was through his AFR/uBer setup though.

^ Which one? Pat's or mine? Mine was an LS6 and Pat's was a 92FAST SD, IIRC. Pat's too high end to toy with anything other than a FAST/NW.

i don't know what cam would be best for you, but i've read some awesome things about ET Performance 11 degree heads lately.....they flow like AFR's/Trickflow's and the 11* valve angle is excellent for PTV clearance.......i'm thinking i'll have a set of these in my future

I checked those numbers on the heads and they are indeed impressive. I hold everything to the TFS/TEA standards now. But they do outflow at low lift intake numbers, but the exhaust is slightly less. (3.900" @ 215cc intake) Not a big deal, but in the same price range, it just depends what you're looking for.
