Default WHat is a good Head/Cam package?

Hey guys i have a 2000 trans am and i want to do a head/cam swap.. What is a good street package...i want a package that will put me around 420-450whp..I was looking at texas speed and they have some combo packs..i would not be doing the swap...i would take it to a local performance shop to have it done...by the way i live in troy michigan so if anyone knows a good shop that deals with ls1's please let me know.

Assuming you have bolts on done already(intake/exhaust), the PRC stage 2.5 heads and something like a 228r will put you in the neighborhood of the HP you are looking for and still be a nice car to drive on the street.

Call up some vendors like TSP and Thunder and tell them your goals/budget and see what they recommend.

agreed, i think they will suggest something like the 2.5 ls6 heads and the torquer v2 cam. which is a low 230's duration cam. Also your intake and exhaust will make a difference.

agreed if your trying to save a little money i would call tsp they have good deals on their h/c packages. when i had my silverado ss my goal was 400 awhp and contacted them and they helped me meet my goals. now that i have a fbody i'm not sure what i wanna do but i'm keeping tsp in the back of my head incase my other idea falls through.

I say PatG cams. Awesome drivability, WELL underestimated cams and makes gobbs of power for what it is. Ask me how I know... All I have is ported 243 heads and a "baby" 224/228 cam with a 102 intake, 42# injectors and a RT255 pump.

I have numbers now, but they're not final yet... There'll be proof at the end of this coming week..

I originally made 414/372 at TSP throuh a stock fuel system and an LS6 intake. But I don't think they tuned it right. it pulled 404/382 or something on the Slowhawk Mustang dyno at sealevel. Not surre if the altitude change made that big of a difference though.

But I'm WELL over that now.

PatG pulled 460/440 with this (his) cam when he first spec'd it but that was through his AFR/uBer setup though.

...and is that still through the ls6 or the 102?

^ Which one? Pat's or mine? Mine was an LS6 and Pat's was a 92FAST SD, IIRC. Pat's too high end to toy with anything other than a FAST/NW.

i don't know what cam would be best for you, but i've read some awesome things about ET Performance 11 degree heads lately.....they flow like AFR's/Trickflow's and the 11* valve angle is excellent for PTV clearance.......i'm thinking i'll have a set of these in my future

I have this set up ....very good set up for the street.

Stick with Texas Speed....they stand behind everything they send out...it will be worth every cent

I checked those numbers on the heads and they are indeed impressive. I hold everything to the TFS/TEA standards now. But they do outflow at low lift intake numbers, but the exhaust is slightly less. (3.900" @ 215cc intake) Not a big deal, but in the same price range, it just depends what you're looking for.

A.I. ported 243s + Cam Motion 224/228 .595/.595 + bolt ons = 450+ rwhp every time. Usually makes 400ft lbs of tq around 3800 rpm.

The internet will lie to you and make you believe you need a 240 duration cam to make power. Not so.

i had never heard of ETP heads until my tuner mentioned them......he road races Corvettes and pretty much has the best of everything in his cars......the high flow at low lift would make for some crazy, ridiculous throttle response
