Default Help me make sure I measured my pushrods correctly

I measured my pushrod length and wanted to double check I got it right. After 10 turns (7.300") I had no play between the pushrod and lifter (zero lash I believe they call it?) So 1/4 turn past zero last would put me at 7.325". Add in my desired preload of .075" and I come up with 7.400" for the pushrod length I need. That sound right to everyone? Installed the 7.400" pushrods I had and they appeared to fit fine.

Not sure what the extra 1/4 turn is for but I don't think you would get .025" from that anyway. If you measured 10 turns (7.300" is correct for that) and you want .075" preload then I'd use 7.375" pushrods. When you installed the 7.400" PR did you count how many turns from zero lash to 22 ft.lbs.? You would probably get about 1 3/4.

I thought you just had to torque down the rockers to 22lb. ?

I have read that you are supposed to go 1/4 turn past zero lash. You are right though, .0125" would be the correct measurement for a quarter turn not .025". I'm really shooting for as quiet of a valvetrain as possible. When I installed the rods, there was no play with the rockers and everything still moved easily when turning over the motor. Not quite sure what you mean by the last part though.

No need to add 1/4 turn, you should measure from zero lash so the 7.375" would have provided the 0.075" preload. You are likely closer to 0.100" preload, which can be verified with a dial indicator. I think the prior poster was indicating you can count turns to get a rough preload. By my calulations, you should have had just over 1-1/2 turns from zero lash to 22 lb-ft if you were to do this.

Thanks man! Good to hear my 7.400s should work. I bought them before this whole rebuild even started and thought for sure I would need to get new ones when I measured since my block and heads had some work done on them and I got a new cam. Just nice to actually save some cash for a change!
