Default Shop Pricing

I am having a local shop install forged rods and pistons that I have provided them. One thing that came up during the install was the crank needed some work on the mains. I just feel that I am getting way over charged in the labor department. Have a look at my invoice.

Diddasemble engine inspect, measure - $340.00
Wash Block - $ 35.00
Hone cylinders with torque plate - $160.00
Check main bore for size, check deck - $ 45.00
Hone connecting rod small ends for pin fit -$ 32.00
grind mains - $125.00
Balance rotating assembly inc. pressure plate - $275.00
polish crankshaft - $ 32.00
Replace valve springs - $ 85.00

And the part that concerns me the most...

Build long block - $1,440.00

Do those prices seem high? Especially for building out the long block?

Does the shop have experience with LS engines?

The prices seem reasonable, presuming they are experienced w/ LS in particular.

About 25% of their work are LS engines. They do a lot of Mod Ford motor stuff as well. 3 grand just seemed high but maybe its not...

There are places You can get an LS? crate engine for around 2500 but I believe that would be an LS1 so not only You're probably getting better parts but possibly better machining and if You're having them build You say ,,,,,an LS7 or something then You're way ahead on that but I have no idea which LS You're having built ?

You can get a forged TSP 347 short block for $3700.

That might be a better option seeing as how you would get a brand new everything. But the prices don't seem that bad given that they do good work.

Just so we are all on the same page, this is a 2002 LS6. I lowered the compression to 9.5 and put diamond forged pistons and some callies forged rods in it. Yes he installed and degreed the cam, all new bearings in the motor and when I get it back, it will be ready to bolt the TVS 2300 on the top of it, reinstall the accessories, and slap it in the car. He pinned and installed my new fluidampner as well.
