Default Hand Porting Cylinder Heads

Does everyone just use CNC nowadays to port heads or are there any professional head porters that still do it by hand?

The best top end heads will be hand-finished every time, but remember that a CNC program is just a copy of a (excellent) hand-made port 99.9% of the time. The biggest advantage of CNC is repeatability and uniformity of ports, notwithstanding the relatively short amount of time a cnc program takes vs hand porting. You aren't going to hand-port 8 identical ports.

Yes hand porting is very slow , I spent at least 2 months at maybe 2 or 3 hrs a day . I took about .150 off of the exhaust all the way through .I would do it again . Good luck
