Default How much lift is to much in a turbo 5.3

I got a custom grind cam that's 235-235 647-627 on a 114. It's a stock bottom end 5.3 in my mustang. It's better to check ptv clearance but has anybody ever heard of this big of a cam in a stock 5.3 before. It has a 232-242 580-590 on a 116 now. Any ideas.

my intellectual guesstomometer says even if the heads haven't been milled
and stock thickness gaskets that bigger cam will still be real close. may need

just purchase good springs and stay on top of changing them and checking the pressures. When you run an aggressive ramp pate with a lot of lift plus boost on top of it you know the risks involved but if everything is properly setup and maintained you should be fine.

You can check the piston-to-valve clearance without removing the heads.

The amount of lift on the camshaft has nothing to do with piston-to-valve clearance, which is related to the timing of valve events and is primarily a function of cam duration. As already mentioned, the higher lift will necessitate increased maintenance in terms of verifying valve spring condition from time to time.

IMO, that much lift is unnecessary with boost. Not to mention that stock 5.3L heads flow the least and that much lift on them is pointless.
