Default Windowed ls6 block= total loss?

I just picked up an ls6 shortblock that Broke the #6 rod and punched a hole in the side of the block. Aside from the Attempted exhaling of a rod, shrapnel has went through the bottom end, and pitted the skirts of the block and broke te bottoms off of 2 sleeves.

Now, I've read that ERL will do a superdeck sleevimg on an ls6 block and ls2 block, which basically remedies any of the issues I'm faced with, except for the window (which can be welded I'm sure of)

Is this block total junk? Or worry hanging on to for a future 389ci build for my dead Indian?

Anything is possible with the right amount of $$, but why spend more when an aluminum 6.0L block or L92 that's not a kludge could be had for less?

Send pics of your block to ERL and see what they say.

Yeah, you could probly find another good LS6 block for cheaper than it would be to fix the one you got. I'm not sure if GM still makes them for over the counter sale or not.

I would worry about the damage that has been done that you cannot see! The tremendous amount of pressure given off by that rod exiting the ballpark land in an area of that block with enough force to blow a hole through it and when it went out it most likely created stress fractures going outward away from the hole in the block. So you probably have cracks that you cant even see. Are they in an oil galley or in a coolant passage? Who knows...i wouldnt put a nice bottom end in it and all that sleeve work done to just have it all fail in a couple hundred miles.

Recycle it and cut your losses. 6.0 alum engine complete can be had for alot cheaper than what the sleeve work costs!

Search car-parts.com to find the closest one to you! LKQ delivers for free if you got a buddy at a tranny, auto repair shop, etc.

I've decided to make a coffee table out of it. Aside from the window, when the block was dumped in the scrap dumpster, the lower drivers side portion of the block (where the bottom alternator bolt is) was broke of off the block.
Given the abundance of aluminum 4.00"+ bore blocks these days, I'm gonna delegate this one to being a piece of furniture.
