New GM heavy duty chain, are new gears nessecary?
I'm doing a cam swap and was going to put on a new GM heavy duty timing chain. Is it nessecary to change out the gears when you put on this heavy duty chain. Car has 27,000 miles on it. I really don't want to pull the crank gear if not needed. Unless its not as hard as I hear it is....
Thanks- Eric

I'm still running the stock chain and gear on my H/C setup. It has 25,000 miles on it and has had an aftermarket cam in it since 800 miles. I would just leave the stock stuff in it for now.

I just installed the Patriot Stage 2 6.0's, MTI C2, and I went ahead and installed a Rollmaster double roller chain. I've got 28000 on the coupe, and figured it would be cheap insurance. Besides, you might a s well try a new oil pump while your in there.

I'm pretty sure that you should really replace the gears if you are replacing the chain.
Pulling the gear is not difficult at all. The oil pump is the most annoying part, and that has to come off anyway to replace the chain...
