Default Texas speed cam question

Ok ive seen a few texas speed cams that have had about 1000-2000 put on them, they were all differant cams, put in differant cars in differant locations build by differant people cars owned by differant people and they were all pitted on the lobes around the center of the cam whats up with that, they were torquer 2, tr 224, ms3, ms4, I thought this was a really good company ive bought 1 from a member here and it was like that as well , all 4 pitting looked identical some had more spots than others, but it was everyone one, anyone else seen this

I think they use Comp Cams blanks for their cams....I have been known to be wrong though and I'm positive someone will correct me if I am.

It wouldn't be a TSP defect in that case, they just grind em.

We don't grind any camshafts here....Comp cuts every camshaft we sell. So in theory, if there is an issue with a "TSP cam" core, there would be an issue with many many other company's cam cores too. Feel free to post up some pics of what you've got though, and we can look at them and give our opinion and get Comp's feedback as well.

It's junk, but get a bigger picture up so we can see it closer. The lifters might have spun in the bore and that would cause that damage.

Since it's a steel core, it could be welded and reground then re-heat treated.
Just the one lobe?

this is the torquer2 this one and the 224 arent nearly as bad as the ms3 and ms4 they had actual chunks taken out of them these look more like sideways scratches that could be easily smoothed out what yall think

the ms3 what chunked and ms4 was sent back to the guy i bought it from i still have the other 2

I had an MS3 that had way more 2000 miles on it and it had zero pitting. Looked nothing like those.

I know someone that pulled a cam that look like those. It was a regrind from eBay. Probably not hardened correctly

Typically when a cam has a pitting condition as in the pics it is a valve/valvetrain control issue. Rarely it can be improper heat treat/nitriding.

thats lifter or lubrication damage. i have installed 8 or 9 tsp cams and have two more outside. my ms4 has probably 50,000 miles on it and has been in three different motors in two different cars. i cant imagine how many cams comp grinds for different vendors and custom grinds for customers. i seriously doubt the problem is their cams.

any idea what lifters they were using? i would have to say thats a heat treating issue whether its the cam or the lifters its hard to tell. i have been doing several warranty jobs for flat cams and gm claims its the cam not being hardened properly but im just not convinced its the cam and thats it more a lifter issue. i had a ai cam go flat in my lt1 due to a lifter failing.
