I always degree mine, Got a degree kit from summit Years ago, even came with a how to video. It would definately be a good sticky. Most fellas just stick it in have no trouble, but You never know when that could bite you....

Degreeing insures the following are correct:

Crank key position in the crank
Crank gear key position
Cam gear pin location
Cam pin location
Cam lobes in relation to the pin.

Any one of these is off, and the cam doesn't end up in the position the designer intended.

There are a lot of areas for tolerance stack up that is not in your favor.

Dod to dot most often is fine. But in some instances, there could be an error and you would never know why the car is "off" in performance.
It's just good practice. And it's not that hard.
