Default Replacement Heads for LM7

I have an '04 Suburban with 2 cracked heads (Castech 706s). Is the 241 head a worthwhile direct bolt-on replacement? I ask because used 241 heads are plentiful. I need to use the same truck intake and exhaust manifolds. Power increase isn't a goal. The Suburban has 159,000 miles and I don't want to purchase new 706 heads if I can save some money on something else.

It should work, but you will lose a fair bit of compression. The 241 is a 66cc chamber, where as the 5.3 heads (706&806) are 63cc chambers. It will feel real sluggish. Each the classifed adds on here, and I'd bet you can pick up a replacement set of 5.3's for less than $200.

Thanks for the info on compression, I didn't think about that. The problem with used 706s, though, is the possibility of their cracking in the future as well.

Just to clarify ,,,,,,,,the 706's and the 862's were used on the 4.8/5.3L and the chamber volume is 61.15 cc The 862's are not Castechs and thus have'nt had cracking problems

Thanks Chrisfrost. So, used/refurbished 862s are OK, correct.

I think the embossed battery symbol on one of the intake ports is the dead giveaway. I have three sets of 5.3L heads and I know two sets for sure are 862's and do not have it. The third set does, but I'm not sure if they're 706's or 862's.
