02 LS1/T56 45,xxx original miles (whats it worth)
Hello all,
I purchased a 02 LS1/T56 with 42,xxx original miles back in 08 from a seller on ebay. Prior to swapping the engine/trans into my Rx7, I went about adding some mods and replacing items I felt needed replacing. When the economy took a dump, I lost my job and the car was rarely driven. I've only put approximately 3k miles on this combo.
I'm trying to get an idea of what I could sell it for as I just recently purchased a 2013 Mustang GT.
Below are the prices I paid for each item back in 08 -
(keep in mind these parts only have 3k miles on them, minus the engine/trans)
2002 LS1/T-56 6 Speed - 5,500.00
LS2 Aluminum Flywheel - 320.00
GM Slave Cylinder - 150.00
LS7 Clutch - 337.00
GM LS1 Water Pump - 175.00
SLP High Flow Oil Pump - 175.00
LS2 Timing Chain - 50.00
TurnOne Racing Power Steering Pump - 240.00
I apologize up-front if this is not the correct forum for this post and would ask the moderators to move it accordingly.
Thanks,
Chris

There was an 02 LS1/T56 that just sold on eBay 2 days ago for around $5500. http://www.ebay.com/itm/02-Trans-Am-...p2047675.l2557
Lots of LS1/T56 combo's under or around 50k miles going for $4500-$5500+ lately. The add ons aren't going to net you much, people just want clean low mile engines, and that's what's selling fast right now.
Recent sales:
$4750 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/04-GTO-LS1-E...1aa997&vxp=mtr
$5399 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/04-GTO-LS1-E...7b7dc4&vxp=mtr
$4425 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-Firebir...3913ac&vxp=mtr
$5800 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-Trans-Am-...7bb19d&vxp=mtr

IMO location matters. Here in the upper midwest trucks are hugely popular so there are a LOT of them in the junkyards making 5.3 and 6.0l engines cheap and plentiful. This makes it harder for people to get a high price for a 5.7l. You get to an area where it is all yuppies driving Camrys and Accords or whatever and the junkyards wont have V8s to choose from pushing the price up in those areas.

It was only a matter of time before I caught some heat for mentioning that
I will say that owning a LS1 has made me a great respector of GM engines.
The new coyote engine is pretty awesome but I'm afraid it would lose to the LS1 in terms of reliability and its ability to take a beating. I also prefer the powerband of the LS1. The coyote comes alive around 4,500 RPM where as the LS1 comes alive much lower.

IMO you prob wont get back exactly what you put in it.. i would list it for 6500-7000 OBO and and list everything youve done and what you bought it for and see if you get any hits if no tlower it if you want to sell it faster.. if someone really wants a good ls motor with low miles they will pay for it.. when i totally my 02 camaro it had 78k on it completely stock motor and trans and sold the engine and tans for 4500 pretty dam quick to a guy that builds older cars with the ls engine.. poeple were jumping all over it.. but then again it could depend on location..
