Default Engine swap for DD 3rd gen camaro

Im pulling my sc 383 out and replacing it with an ls engine. Its going to be a daily driver. I was thinking about the vvt 6.0 but im wondering how much better mileage id get with a 5.3? T56. Maybe a small turbo down the road. Either engine would stay near stock to keep low end tq high. What do you guys think the mpg difference would be 5.3 vs vvt 6.0?

You would probably get better mileage with a 6.0l. Most depends on the engines efficiency and cam/tune. GM said themselves they picked the 6.2l for the new vette because any lower dispacement and the engine would be working harder to deliver the same power, even more noticable when the engine cuts half its cylinders.

The mpg difference would not be enough for me to turn down a nice 5.3 if you found one.

Also depends on your budget. A 5.3 is a great motor, and usually about half the price of a 6.0. I currently have a 5.3 in my third gen bird, and it's stock other than a Z06 cam + a few bolt ons. Has great low end torque, and pulls real good mpg's. If you are seriously thinking of doing a turbo down the road, there is really no point of going 6.0. The 5.3 is just as capable with a set of 317 heads.

It prob does make good low end, but I REALLY like low end. Im worried id be disappointed coming off a blown 383. If the mileage is similar, I want more tq.

You will be disapointed. I had a 5.3l in my 95z and although cam and gear choice effects a lot of the low end feel, i had 4.10s and 230s cam, it didnt come alive until 3000rpm, although i didnt care because nobody races below 3k rpm. Like said of course, the displacement would be counteracted with a turbo.

I had a totally stock 5.3/4L60E in a 3rd gen with 2.73 gearing. Faster than any stock 3rd gen made, rode extremely smooth, shifted much better than the 700R4 and put down 25mpg city, 31 hw. Super reliable and cheap to maintain

Perfect for DD duty. Wish I hadnt upgraded it, now Im up to a blown 6.0/T56 and the car is on jackstands more than anything

Thats pretty good mileage. Thats about what an awd 4 banger gets. I think im going to put a stock 6.0 in it. It doesnt seem to be worth it risking alot more low end tq to save a mpg or two. I love this car and I just cant bring myself to make payments on a boring new car to get better mileage...........although that Cruze isnt too bad....
