Default 5.3 turbo build

I keep seeing junk yard 5.3's running 1000-1400hp off of a 78-88mm turbo. Is there much to setting one up to run that kind of power? I like the idea of a 500-1000$ junkyard motor and throwing arp bolts. Was wondering if there's more to this? Any help would be apreciated...

This article is a good start. What it doesn't tell you is you are going to probably have to hire someone in your area that can tune properly. Just purchasing an HP Tuner and not having a clue is a great way to blow up a motor.

I'm not even messing with a turbo and learning my HP tuner has been a trial.

Go to the Forced Induction section. Your answers are there.
BTW....you don't need the good bolts......

1k HP will require aftermarket rear end, fuel system (injectors, pumps, Big AN fuel lines, fuel rails) , turbo supporting mods (wideband, boost controller, etc..) custom fabbed turbo kit, or a similar kit from a vendor...

so even with a budget engine of 1k you will still need a bunch of parts, go read the stickies and follow up on some turbo builds in the FI section...

goodluck.
