The ticking sound you are experiencing is lifter bleed down and or the natural sounds of ls1 valvetrain with long tube headers.

Nothing is wrong with the oil, the noise you are hearing can be anything from piston slap to a slight valvetrain noise, which is very common and nothing to worry about.

LS1s do tend to quiet down with oils containing anti-wear additive levels in the 1200ppm range, as the API spec existed at the time these engines were built. The current SN spec reduced these (zinc & phosphorous) substantially, which is fine for stock engines but if you've upgraded to stiffer valvesprings the engine can use the extra extreme pressure additives.

Mine liked Mobil-1 High Mileage 5W-30 (older SL spec and higher zinc/phos levels) but something seemed to have changed in 2012 and the tick returned. I then went to RedLine 5W-30 and it was gone in a few dozen miles.

My neighbor's LS6 had the same issue with stock valvetrain, he went with Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 and the tick cleared first drive out of the garage.

I've had luck with the Mobil 0W40...european blend; Some claim that this has higher zinc levels like the high mileage branded oils...I just know that it
quiets my valvetrain back to stock sewing machine sounds..cam is .595/.598
It lets me know when it's dirty or needs a change by getting louder...usually
2500-3000 miles

I had m1 5w30 in my my motor with stock internals and It would tick a little when it was cold but once it heated up it was fine. I cracked the engine open this week and im surprised how clean it is.
