5.3l crank swap with another 5.3l crank, rebalance?
I am undergoing a 5.3l swap in a dakota and recently bought a 2000 5.3l. In the midst of the teardown, i found a cylinder wall that was pretty rough. Yesterday i bought another 2005 5.3l with a spun bearing and the cylinders look great(for $100! with every bolt, plastic cover, air box,MAF,etc!). Could i pull the crank out of the first motor and use it in the 2nd one without having to get it balanced? Both are dished piston motors, one with 862 heads and one with 706 heads.

LS Cranks are a neutral balance so in theory you should be able to use this.
How ever a 2000 5.3L will have Press pin rod and piston combo while a 2005 5.3L will Floating pin rod and piston combo. There will most likely be a difference in weight, but I don't know the weight difference of the 2 combo's or if it will affect the way it runs.
GM shows 2 different part numbers. I can only guess the means the bob weight balance is different since they use the same casting and 24X reluctor wheel.

I have heard of people swapping without issue, but I have never done it myself.

Thanks for the info! Not to sure what to do now though. I dug a little further into the engine with the spun bearing and found that the rod has gotten hot enough to turn blue on the rod cap.... I think I'm just gonna part out the 2005 motor and bore the other one out. So I guess I have a bunch of 5.3l parts if anyone is interested in them lol. Thanks again for the help guys!
