Default Texas speed cams

I have a 04 Gto A4, looking at a Texas speed 224/224r cam. Would beehive springs from comp cams rated at 625 lift be a good match? Also going with a 3000 stall, jba headers and full custom exhaust.

Yes those will work. Beehives are a nice lightweight spring that are good for dampening valvetrain harmonics, but there is no innerspring to hold the valve if one was to break. This is mainly why dual springs are more commonly used with aftermarket cams these days. However the chances of breaking a beehive spring with a cam under .600 lift is greatly reduced. Just weigh your options and speak with some reputable names in the business before deciding.

if you haven't bought a converter yet, go bigger (3600-4000). These converters all lock up above 40mph or so so they don't use that much more gas. I love my 224r and am going from a 2800 converter to a 4000 in the spring.

The 224R can be bought as a "kit" from TSP, and will give you everything needed for the swap. I would call and talk to them.

Another cam to consider is the StreetSweeper TQ from Flowtech. It has similar specs to the 224R.

I'd go bigger on both the cam and converter. A good 3600rpm converter will still have good street manners and so will a bigger cam with proper tuning. The bigger converter also makes any loss in low speed torque a non issue because anytime your even close to WOT the converter will flash past it. My vote would be for getting a Tick Performance LS2 spec SNS stage 2 cam kit, and Yank or Circle D converter.

I daily drive a TV2 cam with a 4000 PTC nitrous stall everyday. No problem doing so either, actually I would go bigger than what I currently drive everyday. BTR valve springs. Just because its a 4000 stall does not mean it has to be super loose. Mine is actually a 4000 nitrous converter and with 3.73s it's about as big as I would want to go everyday. I do agree I would go no less than a 4000 stall. Still runs mid 11s no problem on 28s.
