Default Finished my build today!!

Well to today was a great Easter Sunday to say the least. I just finished up my H/C/I install today. I put about 50 hours into the car over the last 2 weeks...lots of cleaning and lots of little odds and ends to make things look nice. I will say the Hawks Balancer install tool is worth it's weight in gold! I almost added it to my mod list it is that good!! lol

Here is my build list.

-61cc Tea 243 LS6 heads with Pac dual springs and Ti retainers.
-Comp 224/228 112 @ 1.7 ratio, I am running SLP 1.85's so its around 227/231.
-Morel 5315 drop in lifters with LS2 trays
-Manley 7.325 push rods
-.045 cometic gaskets
-LS2 Chain with LS6 chain dampener
-GM performance HV oil pump
-Ported Fast 92 w/ Nick Williams TB
-36lb @ 3bar GTP Injectors
-Power Bond Neutral balance pulley
-Kooks 1 7/8 LT's with Kooks TD exhaust
-FTI-3800 stall, Shift Kit, Cooler, 3.73 gear
-Base Tune from LSx Power Tuning

Car drives amazing for a base tune up...I am also surprised how well it sounds for no more overlap the cam has!!

Here are some pics of the build:

Here is what it looked like before the tear down.

Now the tear down pics:

Goodies to be installed:

Now it goes back together!!

Here is the idle vid after first start up!

That does sound nice ! You have got to feel great having everything you researched , planned and worked for to come together.

About 5 degrees overlap ? How does it cruise at low RPM ?

The car sounds good man. Are you still running through the stock 4L60E (didn't see anything saying you changed transmissions)?

Thanks guys! Yes stock 4L60E with some basic mods. It only has 17k mi and I was advised to just keep the heat out of it and run it. So that is what I am going to do for now. If and when it gives me trouble it is going to RPM. Not that hard to pull the trans with the lift.

Also I know some may ask why the cam and rocker setup. To be honest the SLP 1.85's were already on the car when I bought it. They are a modified version of the stock rocker with the trunions already upgraded. So I bought a cam designed for high ratio rockers and kept them. Far as overlap, I believe around 3-5 degrees. I have done some research on increasing rocker ratio and every point increase yields about 2 degrees more duration @ the valve. So going up 1.5 should be around 3 degrees. I am not sure if increased RR effects overlap but I imagine it would being duration increases and overlap is a product of duration.

Far as drive-ability, it is amazing, in fact 95% like it was before the build. On a base tune I was cruising with the converter locked @ 40mph. No bucking or surging. The 2-3000 rpm torque is insane! Car pulls like there is no stall until you give it some throttle. The only issue I have so far is it dies if you blip the throttle in park. But it appears to be learning itself and does not do it every time. All in all I am very surprised how well it is running for a base tune. Hopefully today I get a chance to log some data and hook the wide band up.

Good deal. Eventually I will be purchasing a stall and gears. I figure I should get that before a H/C job. I have been talking Martin @ Tick and we have already come up with a nice mild cam for stock (or lightly ported) 243 heads and LS6 intake. How have you liked your stall thus far? I have seen a few different ones mentioned on this site. Yank seems to be a go-to brand but they can be a little pricey. Of course you have to pay to play, better to do it right the first time haha.

I seem to remember you in a ASA cam thread. I knew how to calculate lift but not duration.
I don't see a MAF, are you SD tune now ?

Car looks and sounds fantastic. Can't wait to see some WOT videos. I've got Kooks TDs and you're really not helping my self restraint of going for broke to do H/C.

I have had the stall and kooks setup for almost 3 yrs. I absolutely love the FTI-3800...it drives really nice and hits hard. The car was running 12.0's @ 115-116 on the street according to my Gtech with just bolt-ons and stall. 12.2 before the stall but I could dead hook on the stock stall with a DR. That is the nice thing with having a gtech if you do not have a track close. You can go out and see what gains you net after each mod.

When I bought the car in 2009 it had 10k miles. Mods were 1.85 rockers,918 springs, Hooker LT's, flowmaster cat back, shift kit and 3.73 gears. Best it ran on the street was 12.8 @ 112. Put a lid and ported TB and it went 12.5 @ 114. Added Toyo 315 drag radials in place of the shitty Sumitomo 315's and it went 12.2 @ 114. Then added Kooks 1 7/8, Kooks True duals, the 3800 stall and it went 12.0 @ 116. The stall treats the drag radials almost like the stock stall did the sumi street tires.

I am sure now I will need to get a taller tire for any kind of traction.

Pretty nice times considering just simple bolt-ons. I honestly have no clue what rockers I have. My car is a true SLP but I don't think they touched the heads. Just under 95k miles as of right now. Took her to a dyno this weekend and put down 323 whp and 332 wt through an a4 with 3.23 gears. I really, really want to get the mods coming but can't decide what should come first haha.

Multi quote not.working from my phone so bear with me.

Squalor, no I am running a Delphi 85mm maf.

Mac, Thanks! I hope to hit the dyno in June.

Chevyman, Thanks! The Kooks exhaust is simply top notch! I will post more videos soon. I want to get the tune dialed first. Just start piecing your build little by little then do it all at once. That is what I did. My advice is not to go too big on cam selection. Everybody over cams the car these days. Put the money in other areas of the build. If yoj want to go big then go tight lash solid roller.

Nice build! Doing research has its rewards.

What numbers do you think it will put down?

With a Stall it's hard to say. I am more curious what it picks up going off of my gtech since I have used it to measure the gains on all the mods I have done up to this point.

Do you have a link so I can learn more about how to run a 85mm MAF ? What harness to go from 3maf+2iat to 5 pin ? My cam of the week is a 225/229 111+2 Comp rubbing against 5315 and think I'm at the HP point that I could benefit from this but not gain anything from going to a 80mm from a ported 75mm. What harness do I need ? How much do you think the 85mm helps you ?
b0B. would be proud of your .045 Cometics. Can you tell us more about your GM performance HV oil pump ?

Delphi has 2 models. Af10056 and Af10043. The 56 is a stock replacement but the internal diameter is larger then the stocker and the correct adapter is included....The 43 is 90mm found on LS2 motors. I can not really say if it's helping or hurting at this point. I literally just got the car running. Need to log more data and some more drive time. So far I am happy...the car is driving pretty good for a base tune.

Far as the oil pump, many of the vendors sell the pump. I did some research and read its a rebadged LS6..not sure tho. I figured it's a gm product so it has to be tried and true.

Oil pressure is 42-45psi hot idle.... I am running 5-40 Valvoline Syn power Euro formula.

Tonight I installed a set of BMR 1.25" lowering springs.... Looks much better!

Nice stuff. I like my BMR springs with Koni shocks. Drives so much better.

Also, I can say that with a bigger cam (16 degrees of overlap) and more stall... my car still drives a lot like stock. I can lug it around in 3rd or 4th gear at under 1500 with no surge or bucking. It's in the tune... both the timing and the trans tuning. That's not to say it's stock, but it's still pretty stock-like. Even with the Kooks TDs and all the noise they make, if you get the tune sorted, you can certainly drive it everyday in traffic without much issue.
