Default Metal bits in intake manifold

Had my intake manifold off to replace pcv line that was tore. Have had it off many times before but always replaced gaskets. This time I didn't

Put it back together started it and it ran normal. Take it 20 seconds down the road. Soon as car slows and stops at a light it dies. Would start but sputter out. Frustrated at the light with people behind me I gave it a punch of throttle and a crank it fired up. Threw it in drive and got into a parking lot a couple feet away.

I sit for a minute and crank it again. Car starts without a flaw but noticed a noise in the motor. Pop the hood to find a sound of something knocking around in the intake manifold.

Like sucking a penny into a vacuum.

Drive the car home 30 seconds up the street. Tore into it today, pulled my intake manifold and shook it. A couple small metal shards fell out. I'll attach pictures. One bit is marked with a *

What could these metal bits be or be off of? What's the next step?

Car has 140k very easy miles until I got it 10k miles ago and ran the hell out of it.

* marking

My first thought was that a piston came apart, but it looks more like some type of clip.

Does it look like there is any damage down the intake ports.

If I were you I'd pull the intake again and completely clean it out. Also inspect down the intake ports on the heads and make sure no debris got in there. Inspect the intake gaskets, make sure one didn't get folded over or fall apart? Are those broken parts Iron or Aluminum? Check with a magnet.

No sir that's the first place I looked. Figured I see something chewed up, but visually they look fine.

The car ran fine just had the rattling. But I'm really confused on what exactly could have broken to make it that far up the motor

The gaskets look fine. I'll put a magnet to them when I'm off work tonight.

Appreciate the help guys

Whatever it is it isn't good. Give the intake and surrounding area a hell of a cleaning and reinstall and see how she does.

I may have identification for the culprit. Picture with dime for size comparison. Bad news is you might be missing alot of pieces of it.

That looks like part of the gas line retaining clip

Thumbs down

Its pretty obvious to anybody thats ever worked on their own car what I posted. Lets see if thats what it was or if OP has to keep digging.

Dont know how thumbs down got in there and dont now how to get it out either

Well what ever it was at least one of the pistons used one of the intake valves as a hammer to chop it into pieces. You may get away with this if you are very lucky.

Wow, that would make sense more than anything.

I imagine that when I had the manifold off last, I must have knocked that into the head somehow..

I'll check injectors tomorrow after work. Cars in my mom's garage.

I dont believe it will hurt injectors, but worth a look. If it is the clip get another one and throw on the fuel rail. The clip is spring metal and surprisingly strong so there is a good chance for nicked valves, unlikekly a nicked seat (they're realy hard) and probly a few nicks in combustion chambers and pistons. Id skip compression test and pull all rockers and pressurize each cylinder one at a time listening to intake and exhaust ports for leaks.
