Default if engine blows

Say my ls1 in my camaro spins a main or starts knocking could I just go get a 5.3 or 6.0 truck short Block and use my heads and other external parts and get it back running? Basically I'm preparing for the worst and want to know cheap fix if the bottom end does go?? Very much a ls nube any info would be great!

yes all the parts from your ls1 will fit on a 5.3/6.0 short block

I'm guessing it would require a retune?

Yes a retune will be needed. This is what happened to me and I went with a TMS 6.0 shortblock and reused my top end

You should assume that you would have it retuned. All 3 motors have the same stroke, but different bore size. Remember the 5.3 and 6.0 are cast iron and are heavier than your ls1 block. Around here, the 5.3 goes for half what the 6.0l does. If you get a 5.3l, carry over the cam from your ls1. If you get the 6.0l, the cam in the motor is essentially the same as the cam in your ls1.

What are you doing that has you concerned about spinning a main?

Not really concerned about the main just bottom end in general cause slapping a 5.3 in seems much cheaper than rebuilding the ls1 or finding a replacement ls1
