Default Oil Pump Questions

OK, some quick history first:

At cold idle, I have 60psi oil pressure. After the car gets warm, it's about 25-30psi dropping down to 20psi. No more that 50psi WOT.

I switched back to an AC Delco filter and started using M1 10W-30. I don't know how long it's been like this, but I just started noticing it about a month ago.

So far I replaced the oil pressure sender. Now I am working on replacing the pump-
I am replacing my oil pump with an LS6 ported unit from TSP. I have a few new pickup O-Rings too. Can anybody, who has done this in the past, provide me with any tips? So far, I have the front cover pulled and oil pan dropped about 1/2". I can get a wrench on the bolt for the pickup tube. What's the best way to install the new O-Ring without pinching it? Should I use any RTV gasket maker between the output and the block? Any tips are greatly appreciated.

TIA

ls1howto.com

Look under F-body H/C swap, it has all the instructions for swapping the oil pump out and placement of the o-ring.

There's a few hints that aren't on ls1howto. If you want to be sure you don't pinch the o-ring, take the front cover off the oil pump and take the gears out. Then you can get the pickup tube on without pinching the o-ring. Then bolt the oil pump to the block, then oil up the gears and put them back in. I would only use rtv if you have the spacer for a double timing chain, but it shouldn't hurt anything either.

Thanks for the replies. I finished the installation last weekend with good results! I had no problems with the o-ring getting pinched- I was able to move everything around enough with having to take the front cover off the oil pump. I think the hardest part was loosening the 4 bolts under the k-member enough to drop the oil pan.

Anyways, thanks for the replies, the job is done.
