Default 5.3 w/ 799 heads milling question

hello everyone and thanks for adding me to the forum. my name is dustin from granite city, il

im currently gathering parts for my first ls build, ive done several sbc's in the past but not ls series.

i ran into a great deal on a complete 5.3 with harness and planning to put it in my jeep wrangler, but i have a couple build question and hopefully someone can help

plan is to bore my 5.3 to fit ls1 5.7 pistons, " i have a set sitting in the garage"
i want to mill my 799 heads to raise my compression up to 10:5:1 ish
how much do i have the heads milled and still run the good ls6 head gaskets.

i want to achive as much low end torque as possible from this motor.
planning on doing the above work and getting a vinci truck cam kit .
ive talked with rodger from vinci and he recommended his "chopper cam"
.551/ .551 - 112 lsa- dur@.004 272/280--- dur@.050 210/218

not wanting to go crazy on this build, it will be streeted and offroaded.
im mostly concerned about raising the compression. thanks in advance- dustin

Youd have to do a compression calculator for exact answers but just guessing off the top of my head 25 cut should put you around 11 to 1. Can still run a pretty decent sized cam too. Mine are currently milled 40.

The cam is listed above. .551/.551 lift
It will be a pump gas engine, that being said, I'm not sure if 11:1 is to high or not. Assuming this engine is basically a ls1 once I bore it, from doing some forum reading it looks like a ls1 with 799 heads should be 10:1.

I just don't want to mill and be way to high

11 is not too high. Lots of people are with 11:1 or better and with bigger cams than that baby cam without any street issues. When I was stock LS1 displacement I was 11:1 and a .612/.600 228/232 111 lsa on 93 pump gas

The ls6 with 243 heads was 10.5:1. 799 heads are the same as 243 heads except the LS6 243 heads had lighter valves. So with no milling you will be 10.5:1.

Sounds great. Thanks for the help. Should be able to slap this together and have a decent motor for a little jeep
