Default 5.3L Ring gab, Turbo

Help Needed
Im building a 5.3L Gen III engine , It´going to be Twin-Turbo charged. I pretty much
know what to do, i have tried it 2 times before.
Both times with extended ring gap, which I read about in Car-Craft once, can not find the article anymore, but both times have we been destroyed 2 pistons.

So my big question is ::::: Is Anybody know whether it is necessary to expand the ring gap or not, (Piston rings)

I have read about many who are not widens the gap. So what to do, what is your experience.

Greetings from Denmark. V8 Fan. Thanks

On high mileage engines, I usually don't bother with ring gap.

How much timing do you run and how much boost?

10 psi of boost, and the timing can i not remember, its over a year since last time, but it was done by one off Denmarks best ECU tuners, so it must have been right, and it was the same 2 pistons every time, the 2 in front on the left side.

What fuel?

E85 or alcohol you can get away with tighter gap, pump gas you need looser. Water/meth injection can also allow tighter gap. Biggest deciding factor is temp. That's what swells the rings and butts them up.

Usually open up the 2nd ring .002-.004 larger. This allows gasses to not get trapped and pressurize the space between the top and 2nd ring, which could cause flutter if it were to happen.

From my research, there seems to be one consensus: run them wider than they probably *need* to be. Gap em too wide, only you will know. Gap em too tight and EVERYONE will know...when you lift a ringland

We are running Octane 99 pump gas

And in ordrer to ringgab, i read the tread about boost ring gab, and we are about the same way to do this as all of you, so we are not all off.

My 99 5.3 has 150k on it, never been opened up with stock ring gaps and Ive been throwing 9-10psi via a centrifigual supercharger for 100 miles and beating the snot out of it with no issues. I do run a FMIC and water/meth (wiper fluid) but its a small amount of water/meth at only 30% meth and only about 450ml/ccs going into the motor. IATs in the 120-160*F range.

one by one off Denmarks best ECU tuners, so it must have been right
I wouldn't assume they tuned it right if you busted the pistons out of it twice on 10lbs and 99 octane. Zero reason for that.

.020-.024 on the top ring with a "good tune" and a little water/meth injection (7-10GPH) and you should be fine IMO.

Make sure to tell your tuner to run no more than 10-12* of timing at 10lbs. Then bump timing up a degree at a time checking plugs.
