Buddy of mine just had his 2015 Camaro lock up from this, of which, GM is covering 100% as the oil change was done there, and the filter was a part of the batch.

I am glad to hear that GM is taking care of him.

Years ago in used to run AC Delco or STP filters because they were readily available and economical. Now, Wix is all I run.

Trust me you don't have to worry about it being "too low." You're damn K member is lower than the filter, as is your exhaust. It's below the pan MAYBE an inch. Ran one for over 3 years daily driven, interstate, neighborhood speed bumps, you name it.
Agreed, have fun Mobile 1 truck filter M206 for years and no issues. Also have used NAPA Gold (wix) 1522.

Is the Napa/Wix 1522 equivalent (same dimensions/form) to the M1-206...?

I believe the oil filter was also the reason for the string of LT1s grenading in the C7s.

I guess GM would have tried to weasel their way out of it had your friend changed the oil himself? Because, you know, spinning on an oil filter is a really difficult task that requires the utmost precision.

The precision part is removing the oring from the original filter that is stuck to the motor!

2 orings = fail.......

Default Wix = Car Quest

I get my WIX filters from Car Quest, these premium filters are manufactured by WIX for Advanced Auto Parts.

Finally got the oil changed today. Went with the Wix 51522, as suggested by a few on here.

I can not get over how small the filter is on this engine. My big bore motorcycles' filters aren't much smaller.

Default EPA Filter Regulated Size

The Federal Government was the entity that has passed that LAW, to make oil filters small.
Today we may have a "play" in hand, to use our trump card.

This is interesting. Can you link us to the info regarding this law?

What benefit are you guys looking for out of the larger filter? I can see the general direction you're going but wondering if there is a specific thing you're curing? Or is it just that you want more filter area?

To my mind, a shortage of filtering capacity is never good, but no such thing as too much capacity!

I appreciate all the responses, and yes bigger is always better LOL.

And I agree, when it comes to fluid maintenance especially.. changing early, extra filtering, cooling etc is always a good thing. I'm always telling people stories about how high of mileage I get out of engines I abuse the **** out of and 4L60's because of my fluid maintenance habits.

Long time ago when these cars ruled the streets seen a very nice TA pulled over along a busy interstate highway from hell with you guessed it A BROKEN OIL FILTER. They used the longer filter, something out on the road whacked it wide open. Instant carnage.

Well, you DO have to use some common sense! Not all situations cause the long filter to hang too low.

While I agree more oil filtering and cooling etc is better, but if these motors frequently go well beyond 200 even 300 thousand or more miles no problem using standard filters, how much better does it really need to be?

Yes I'm aware a lot of guys don't get that kind of miles out of an LS1, but I have and I was a complete ******* to that engine every day for years. It was taken to the rev limiter at least once a day for those years. And I sold the car and it was eventually totaled with over 220k miles and in all of those miles it whooped up on cars with more mods. So I agree bigger is better, but how much better do you need when you don't actually have a problem?
