Hello all,

So many of us are aware of the castech 706 issues. I have 2 question sbecause I am looking at a used set of 243 heads claimed to be from a 2002 c5 z06.

1. Did any of the 243 heads from castech have issues?

2. Were 243 heads in a c5 z06 ever actually made by castech or is this guy lying and these are off an LS2 or truck?

I can't answer your question about the castech aspect but if the heads are truly off an '02 Z06 then they will have the lightweight hollow/sodium filled valves. These valves are unique to the '02-'04 Z06 only. Also, the hollow/sodium filled valves are a tad longer that the valves used in other applications. To know if it's a true Z06 head a valve would need to be removed and measured or weighed, I'm not aware of any other way to confirm authenticity personally.

I was curious about your castech question since I have 243's on my Z and both my parents have 243's on their daily drivers. Found the GM bulletin:

Apparently the heads made by castech have a castech logo on them and the issue is primarily or inclusively involving the 706 heads and maybe even the 862 heads also both of which are found on some 4.8/5.3 engines. There is no mention of the 243 heads. I am not sure who produced the 243 heads but they don't appear to be a part of this issue according to what I am seeing online. Maybe someone else can chime in further.

I've NEVER heard of a 243/799 Castech head leaking / cracked or otherwise. Personally, I'd run them and not think twice.
