987s and 978s are SBC springs and they work. Depends on what springs they are. Some do and some dont. I'd suggest not being a test dummy to see what works and what doesnt, as some are prone to breakage.

well the reason why is cause my buddy has a set of springs on his 327 which has 350 double hump heads on it and he has springs that are good for up to .650 in lift which i though was a good spring for the cam i am putting in. my buddy said he will give them to me cause he is going to a diffrent head that has springs already on them.

Ls1 springs are taller than sbc springs generally, plus you will have retainer and lock problems.NOT a good idea even for FREE.Springs are a VERY IMPORTANT part of your valvtrain, don"t experiment it won"t be cheap.

I dont like using used springs anyway. Just not worth it when it takes so long to change them, and to save what, $150?...If you can't afford $150 for springs, I'd leave your car stock.

Patriot Gold Duals, Crane Duals and Comp Duals are all good to .650 lift and will drop in the stock spring pocket. While some of the SBC springs will work, they will require some machine work on the heads in the spring pocket as they are usually a 1.46" spring and the LS1 is a 1.25" spring.
