Default Deck height?

Has anyone found a way, is it even possible, to measure the deck height (piston out of the hole) with the heads still on? I was wondering if it could be done with a borescope. I know this may seem whacky but the reason is, I'd like to match the left right deck heights, or at least get them as close as possible by having the right thickness gasket on each side. I'm doing a h/c swap soon and I would like to have the parts on hand(by measuring first) so I don't have to leave the car sit while waiting for them. Am I being too **** here?

I think you are being ****, but I'm that way too. Personally, I wouldn't do it with the heads on if you could anyway. Too much you can't see like carbon buid up on the piston or any variance at all in the head gasket's, etc. Even if there was a difference, it would only be .0xx and were talking about the a minisclul (sp) compression diff. IMO...
