Default Knock sensors are corroded PLEASE HELP!

I have a 2002 ws6 with 19,000 miles on it. A few days ago I got my heads and cam installed. I got a small tune just to help idle and drivability, ect.... I cant get a wot dyno tune yet because my clutch is not yet broken in. The tuner said that one of the knock sensors was not responding. Today we removed the intake manifold and both knock sensors were plugged in but when we took the sensors out of the block they were corroded. They smelled burnt. I'm replacing both of them now and the wiring harness. My question is what caused this to happen? Anybody experience this before?

this is acually pretty common. mainly caused my washing the motor. water gets under the intake and settles in the knock sensor holes. what you need to do is replace them and apply silicone around the seal to prevent it from happing again. good luck.

Steve.

Don't forget to remove the square piece of foam under the intake. When water gets on the back of the engine, the foam wicks it under the intake.
