whats the easiest way to check for bent valves if the head is off? i would rather not pull the valves out as i dont have a spring compressor here.. i can get one later just curious right now.. i have heard to see if they will hold liquid or something? any suggestions?

Pour gasoline into the runners and check for it around the valve seats. It may bet a little wet but if it just runs out there you go, bent valve.

Yes, you can just pour it into the combustion chamber and check intake and exhaust at the same time.
