went out on I-10 and got the car up to 5000 rpms (automatic transmission) and the oil pressure was past the 80psi mark ....

faulty sending gauge? or what the heck is going on here?

i dont think u can ever have to much oil pressure mine shoots up to a lil beloow 80 whenever i step on it.

You can have excessive oil pressure, which is not good. It will cost you in all kinds of ways. I don't think you have anything more than either a malfunctioning guage or a sending unit. Factory guages aren't known for their absolute precision.

Isnt there a pressure reliefe valve in the oil pump? Possible that could have failed?

On my coworkers C5 they checked his o/p with another guage and it showed 130 psi

Ive pegged about 110 PSI with a mechanical gauge when the cars gauge said ~75 PSI so FWIW
