People with AFR heads
This question isn't for sponsors. I'm looking to see what Mr. average joe LS1 guy thinks of these heads.
What kind of gains did you get over stock or other aftermarket heads? Would you recommend them? I'm planning on these heads with the magic stick from TSP for my winter mods.

Great for FI or Nitrous for sure.
Those looking for Peak NA numbers or larger cube/bore heads should look at aftermarket CNC's on AFR's. Definitely superior heads. Which AFR CNC you want depends on your goals.

Currently, she has absolute stage 2's with the MTI Stealth II. It dynoed 388 unlocked, 405 locked, if I remember right. No track times, one of her lifters took a dump before we could get it to the track. I bought the AFR's for myself, but I am not sure where I wanna go with my car now, so she benefits, lol.

to me the 205's arent worth the money over a well ported GM casting, just as well since the average joe isnt going to do all the neccessary things to maximize his setup so the money is better saved. however i feel the 225's are going to be bad *** and i anxiously await there arrival.
a great benefit of the AFR is the better casting to start with; take a bare AFR casting and put them in the hands of a compenent porter, get a cam to match, and i think you will see where they really shine.
however thats mucho $$$$$ which the average joe once again wont likely spend.

The 205's being perfect for your average Vette owner, or someone with a street car who want lots of power down low. Folks who would like a stealth cam for instance...
The 225's are for folks with a big gear, and if you have an auto, a big stall. You have to want to turn that motor up tight, and then the 225's are right up your alley.
Keep in mind that if you already have heads, I would recommend switching to a 205. But, if you are looking at an initial purchase I would definitely look at a 205 or 225 for your combo. If you want to upgrade a set of ported Ls6's for instance, I would wait on the 225's.

I'm considering the AFR 205's and a "smallish" cam for my car, but I too would like to see some more real-world results from the AFR's. I like the fact that there is no core charge, and I can keep my original heads in case I decide to revert back to stock sometime in the future. To me, the $2150ish price doesn't seem too bad when you factor in the $500 core charge that's pretty standard at most places, and consider that they do seem to flow right up there with most "stage 2" ported stockers, but with a smaller port/higher velocity.

Here are some real world numbers...

Silver Z06 472 RWHP 426 RWT - This car had off the shelf AFR 205’s, 224/228 cam, Fast90 and Nick Williams TB, LGM headers and an electric pump….and the best part is they weren’t done with the tuning.

AFR heads are beefier.
You will not cut into port roof if you ever machine for larger springs.
Area around valve guide has more metal for stable valve allignment.
Head surface is thicker for better gasket sealing.
Just these areas of improvement are enough to justify the higher price.
Now, do I buy the 205's or 225's.

Make no doubt about AFR cylinder heads. Look at the 5.0L Ford market, they have what most Ford guys say is the best head available. With AFR's lowest cfm runner, the 165cc Ford 5.0L head, they flow better than most heads with larger cfm runners, 185cc+.
The same goes for the LS1 205cc head. It is a fully ported head straight from AFR. Your not going to find a cheaper fully ported head than the AFR's. This company may not be as known as certain brands, but AFR heads have always been there, lurking, making the HP you want.
I plan to put a set of AFR 205cc's on my '04 GTO in about a year with a larger TB and FAST intake with a slightly larger cam, though still researching the cam stuff.

Just for comparison on what JRP stated above. I had Stage 3 LS6 heads and a custom cam 230/236 on a 114 and pulled a hair over 400rwhp and 415rwtq unlocked through a YankSS 4000 and 3.73 gears.
