Default thicker head gasket buys me more P-V room?

Wil using a thicker head gasket give me more P/V clearance and will it do it safely?

I know i can buy thicker head gaskets but is there any cons and do they outweigh the pros?

Bad idea if you don't need the room, also less compression. The real killer is the thicker gasket lessens your quench with kills hp and can lead to detonation even with less cr.I wouldn"t do it!!

I need the room and the comp on the heads would be 11.4 with stock gaskets...

11.4 is not too bad, just be careful on the tune, I have also heard that using a gasket is not the best way to lower compression or gain p/v room but I could not tell you why this is.

yup, if your having problems with the current compression increasing the quench will make it worse.

but like mike said, tuning will be your friend w/ 11.5 SCR. what cam are you going with, if you need clearance just fly cut, if you need lower compression swap to a set of heads with a bigger chamber or use dished pistons. if you havent decided on a cam yet look into one that will give you the DCR you need so you can bleed of more cyl pressure at lower rpm's. that coupled w/ a good tune i dont see any problems, concerning detonation at least.
