Is there a way to disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail without the special tool. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure we've all been stranded on a sunday with one little thing holding up progress.

How about you go buy the spcial tool for a few dollars?
Either that, or fabricate your own, get something really thin but stiff, wrap it around the line and push it up into the connector, then pull the connector and your fabricated tool away from the main rail.
IIRC the real tool only costs $5 or less

Very common tool... Napa, Checkers, O'Reilly's... any local car parts store should have it..
Just make sure you get the metal one.. The plastic set doesn't work worth a damn on our cars. Well, the plastic ones didn't work for me.
