Default LS1/LS6 Spring Seat Explanation

There has been a lot of questions about these lately. Here is the explanation confirmed by my own measurements.

98-01 LS1s use a steel spring seat that measures .035 thick and a separate valve guide seal.
02 LS1s use a spring seat/valve guide seal that measures .045 thick.
01 LS6s use a copper looking spring seat that measures .045 thick. These are the spring seats that come with the 01 LS6 springs in the Hot Cam Kit.
02 LS6s use the same spring seat/valve guide seal that the 02 LS1s use and, like said before, measure .045 thick.

These different thickness spring seats are going to set the installed height of the valve spring and vary it by .010 depending on what seats you decide to use.

On a side note, I measured the installed height of a 02 LS1 with the .045 spring seat/valve guide seal on a stock head/valve with a Comp Titanium retainer and stock keepers with a valve spring height mic this week. Installed height came to 1.895.
