98 ls1 heads on 6.0", What head gasket??
The 98 ls1 heads have the notch in them that require the GM 12498543 Head gasket kit. The problem is the head gasket is a little small for a 4.0" bore. The 6.0L heads do not have the teflon seal required to seal the 98 heads. I ordered a set of gaskets, but they measure 3.975". Do I have any options???
Is it possible to open up the 98 gaskets to over 4.0"???
Appreciate your help

I did some searching and found the following:
FELPRO part number 1041
Head Gasket V8 LS1
Gasket Bore 4.135
Compressed Volume 9.4cc
Compressed Thickness .041
Jegs says they are for the 99-04,
Do they have provisions for the early style head with the notch????

I need the answer to this question also. I am using my 98 heads on the 6.0L block too.
I bought some 98 head gaskets but I dont have the block yet.
How much will the 98 gasket drop the compression?

I spoke with the guys at Texas Speed and they specifically told me this gasket won't work. So it looks like Cometics is the only way to go. Does the LS6 gasket have the correct bore for a 6.0L???

When I pulled my motor last week I noticed this notch, but I just put the gasket that was there up to it and it covered the notch like it had the wrong gasket on it?????
P/N GM 12558810 is what was on there.
Does anyone know if that is the stock replacement head gasket?
So what is the purpose of filling the notch in if the gasket just covers it?

Will using the stock 98 LS1 head gasket damage anything, since it is a smaller opening than the blocks bore?
Im guessing it would raise compression since it would make the combustion chamber smaller, wouldn't it?

I'm using 98 heads on my 6.030" iron motor, with Fel Pro 1041 gaskets... I had the notches welded up, but it wouldn't have made any difference... Just wasted money The Fel Pro's would have cleared that notch no problem.
