Default Lift Questions

For an '03 5.3l Silverado with 25k miles, how much lift can stock springs handle before making the switch to double springs? What other components should be changed when a cam is replaced (lifters, pushrods, rocker arms...)?
The specs on the replacement cam would somewhere around the 210/218 slash 216/224 range on duration, lift between .530 and .550, on a 114 or 115 lsa. You know, a good torque cam that operates up to 6000 rpm and has good characteristics for possible future forced induction (Radix, ATI, or Vortech).

Stock springs are barely adequate for the stock LS1 cams. If GM designed a new spring for the LS6 cams (.525 in 01 and .551 in 02 and up), then they must had a good reason to do it.

For the type of cam you're looking for, I'd go with LS6 springs. double-springs would be overkill IMO.

Comp cam 918's would be my choice. I run them on .581 lift XER with no valve float.

Yeah, I have the 918's too, on a .560 XE lobe and I love them. But for the difference in price, I'd still go with LS6 springs for the type of cam he listed. They are rated at .575
