383 stroke, heads and cam ls1. (is it possible)
Hey guys I have a 98 Camaro and have been considering stroking the engine or heads and cam. But I thought why not both. I was thinking of going with a mild cam something not that much bigger than the ls6 cam. Also since I know to stoke one needs better heads, I was thinking of getting the ls6 heads ported. My question is whether or not it is possible to have both. any suggestions on the parts would be appreciated. Also any "realistic" power output guesses and or problems I might run in to. Thanks guys!

hahahaha search is you friend. to make it short, if you stroke your motor you better be prepared to get a lot more than just the stroker kit. ported heads, a matched cam, make sure your fuel system is up to the task, ensure your intake/exhaust components will be able to keep up with the needs of the motor. all things that will need to be addressed in the process.

i'm not an expert by any means but from what i've gathered for an f-body, if you go with a 383 ls1(which is what i have but not installed yet) go with the LS6 stage 3 heads, an ls6 intake, 30lb injectors, and for starts on a cam try some thing in the 240'ish duration around .600 lift, and 112lsa, do not use a stock ls6 cam that would cause you to lose mucho horsepower.

You don't have to do anything with the stroker except the tune. However, the other stuff, making the engine breath better, will have more affect.
Anything that raises he mass of air burned will raise the fuel requirements. If you don't improve the breathing, you will just reduce the engine speed that a given power level is reached. If you increase the breathing, you will raise the peak power and the fuel requirement.

Forget the LS6 stuff...its obsolete unless its real cheap. 240+ cam is best.
Get AFR 225 and 90mm if you can
Go 402 LS2 too...check out the latest dyno and sales at Rapidmotorsports among others.
Guess it depends if you want 450rwhp...500rwhp...or 550rwhp...never enough

I am not an LS1 guy but IMHO an LS6 cam would be too small for a stroker. Remember a larger cam will be "milder" in a larger displacement engine than it would be in a smaller displacement engine.

Those are tiny #'s for a 383.
i agree with LS6 Stage 3 or AFR 225's
11.2>11.5 CR
at LEAST a 240 duration cam
Might as well get the 42 pounder injectors and a 255 pump.
Minimum 1 3/4 LT header
A good clutch assembly if M6, 3200-3500 stall A4 (2.0>2.3 str)
Eventually a 12 bolt or similar rear end and all the suspension mods to hook that stuff to the ground.

Thanks for the info guys, I already have lt's and was indecisive on wich heads to get some people have told me to just stick to the ls6 heads ported. as far as the fuel system was concearned I was thinking of upgrading the whole thing including 50lb injectors. Another question I had was wether or not to change the intake manifold? Does anyone have a estimated time at the track quarter and eigth, the eight is the closest track to me anyway.

i am running a 395 stroker, originally i had a 232/237 .585 .585 112 and made only 418 rwhp. i switched to a 242 242 .595 .595 112 and the car went to the #'s in my sig. if i had to do it again i would go bigger yet this cam drives almost like stock.
