Question Louder After Cam Installed For A Year

Just curious Fellas, has anyone noticed their car sounding louder after having a cam installed for awhile? My car sounds much louder than a year ago. Any explanation for that, and is it common?

Thats what they say. Cam and compression will make the car louder.

Are you sure it's louder now and that it's not just psychological?? If it really trully is louder, maybe your cats are going out?

It's not like I have a decibel measuring device, but it definitely sounds louder, and a relative said the same thing.

My exhaust (Loudmouth) is a few years old now. Last year I started throwing cat codes but just deleted them. Maybe you're onto something, blkZ28spt.

I was wondering if it had something to do with the cam breaking in.

Anyway, I appreciate the feedback. Thanks!!!

go with the GMMG and you will be VERY HAPPY. Forget that SLP Loud mouth.

I'm starting to feel that way. The car is bordering on obnoxious, plus it has a wicked drone in 6th gear. I like the light weight and durability of the LM though.

'preciate it!

It's probably your cats and/or muffler getting tired that is making it louder.

Hey XTrooper!! Long time no see!

Probably cats. I only have 14k miles on my car, and only about 10k on the Loudmouth. Same for the cats (Randon Tech), about 8k on them.

Since no more sniffer test in MA, should I be worried if the cats are going (aside from the extra decibels)?

Thanks!!

I say if the cats are going and you don't have a sniffer you should hollow out the cats and swap cat-backs, or at least swap the resonator for a more "real" muffler.

I say it's the cam unless it is the stock cam. If it is after market it has bound to be opening the exhaust valves for a extended period of time. It's normal for a car to be louder after a cam swap if you are running a higher duration and lift. just my .02

He didn't say that it was louder when he put the cam in, that much is obvious. He said it got louder a YEAR after the cam went in.

I still have my stock cats I could put back in, but that seems like a step backward. It's funny about the whole exhaust loudness issue, sometimes I wish it were louder, and other times not, but appreciate the advice! Sounds like a plan.

Yup, a year later.
