Question about tuning new motor before break in?
I got a LS6 block and had it done by a local shop, and I am wondering one thing. How do I tune it if I have to wait about 500 miles before I can go WOT? To tune it the tuner will have to go wide open throttle. The way I plan on breaking the motor in is first starting it up, waiting till it gets up to running temperature, then letting it fully cool down. Then doing that 2 more times. I will be using some regular oil, not going higher than 3000 miles for the first 50 mileswhile trying to vary the rpms, then changing the oil/filter with synthetic and the truck size K&N filter. Then not go higher than 3500 rpms for 500 miles.
\But will I be driving the car the entire time untuned? It is tuned for stock injectors with a 224 cam on a 112, with mac mid lenghs. Now I have SVO 42lbs injectors, G5x4 cam, and long tubes. I hate to think of how it will idle/drive with the new mods. Any tips? Should I just bring it to my tuner right away, or wait till I have 500 miles on it?
Oh yea, I have Absolute Speed Stage 2 5.7 heads, and as I was cleaning them with break cleaner today, I noticed that the valves have some type of coating that seems to have somewhat come of them. What is that coating? Do I need to get them recoated or get new valves? thanks

You will definately need a tune right off the bat since you swapped injectors. You can do a basic tune right off then go in for a final tune after the 500 break in period. Start the engine and run it for 15-20 minutes at idle with some cheap regular oil. Let the car cool and change the oil and filter. Check the oil coming out for any abnormal extra metal. Put in some regular valvoline oil and new filter and run that for 500 miles. Then you can change the oil and filter again and go to synthetic if you want. The valves will be fine. Make sure to keep an eye on the guages on first start up especially the oil pressure.

Why wait 500 miles? Let it idle for a while, change the oil. Give it 20 or 30 minutes of regular street time, then drive it HARD! I really don't see why people like to baby their motors for 500 miles.
