Default how easy is it to fry head gaskets????????

Hey guys I had a question on head gaskets. I have a 98 ls1 and wanted to know if anyone has fried their head gaskets? Also does anyone know how heat resistant they are? I think that I might have gasket leak but am not completely sure. I drove the car and the car did overheat to the point where the engine shut off three times. Help please.

its easy you just need a big enough pan and a spatula

seriously though you may have an issue, open the rad cap
(cold)and run the car up to temp, are there constant bubbles in the coolant? how's the oil look, milky?a leak down test would be a good idea too

oil looks fine. not alot of bubbles. the reason why the engine overheated is still unknown to me. the coolant leaks through the overflow bottle once the engine gets to operating temp with the radiator cap on. with the radiator cap off the the coolant begins spewing through the radiator.

Take it to a shop and have them sniff the coolant for combustion gases. It works pretty good, usually. Might as well spring for some heads now. LOL Idea! That's what I'll tell the old lady! "Baby, my heads are cracked. I gotta order some new ones". LOL

Yeah, definitely take it to a shop and have them do a sniffer test. Most radiator shops will do this for you free of charge...it takes a few seconds.
