Default Modified oil pan - need advice

I'm putting a LS1 in my '55 and the only way I could keep my original type steering was to get a modified oil pan and pickup tube from Street and Performance. Now I'm getting worried about losing approximately 1 quart of oil capacity with the modified pan. I'm putting stgII heads, 224 cam, and headers on the motor and plan on taking it to the track a few times to see what it will do.

What options do I have to ensure I plenty of oil flowing in the motor?

Thanks,
Steve

Does anyone else have any input? I do plan on adding a larger capacity filter and a APE p&p oil pump. Do I need an external oil cooler or anthing else? Thanks.

Have you tried other oil pan options?

The truck oil pan for instance has a HUGE capacity and may work better for your application. This truck pan is on tahos, etc. It fits the 5.3L and the 4.8L LSx type engines. Basically a bit smaller displacment and an iron motor.

I installed an LS6 in my Miata and used the truck pan after cutting it shorter for ground clearance. The welding was relatively easy and even after shortening the pan quite a bit, I am able to hold 6.5-7 quarts with no problems.

You can also use an external oil reservoir. I forget who they're made by, but in essense, they allow you to store oil when there is pressure (works against a piston) and release it when there is not. Great system and adds additional benefits that you don't normally have when going around a corner for example.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into these options.
