Ti retainers waste of money?
Look at the mods in the sig. Getting chromoly pushrods. Is getting ti retainers for the comp 918's a waste of money? What is the weight difference? How will it affect things?

Katech sez ti retainers will give you a 200 rpms more till valvefloat.
Stock retainers are small so theyre already light. Ti retainers are needed more for dual springs cuz theyre so much bigger.

While I agree the titanium would be better, the question remains does he really need them? I don't think he does because he has Comp 918's on a Z06 cam, and if the Z06 springs can keep up with that cam the Comps should not have a problem either. The Comp retainer is a better fit than stock, so I would just go with the steel retainers from Comp for best fit.

does he need them for a z06 cam? no.
would they benefit him? eh, not really anything measurable.
does someone with a aftermarket, aggressive ramped cam need them with 918s? no.
would that person benefit? yes.
getting another 200rpm or so before valvefloat is great... if your engine likes spinning that fast... with a tiny cam that cant use the RPM, and a not-as-agressive ramp on the lobe, the cost vs benifit is obviously in the "why bother?" catagory.

Notice the Ti vs. steel weight breakdown by valvetrain component towards the bottom of the following article.
http://www.krcperformance.com/newcontent/beehive.html
It gives you a total-picture perspective of the valve train mass and the weight benefits of going Ti on the 918 retainers. I agree with dug.

Loving the input. It really is just whether or not upping to TI retainers as opposed to the comps on my setup is going to make a noticeable difference.
