Default Cam question?

I just purchased a comp cams xr281hr. Specs are 228/230 .571/.575 112. Now read somewere this cam goes to 7400 rpms. I'll only rev it till about 6600 cause I think the rod bolts couldnt take the stress of 7400 and I think I'll lose power right at about 6600. My car see's sopme track time trough out the year and have a 4.10 gear with 3500 stall with full bolton's and ls6 instake. Now will this cam be a good cam to mess around on the street with. Does it perform well low/midrange through the powerband? Not really worried about idle or drivibility.

That cam looks good. Should peak around 6200 +/- a few hundred rpm.

You don't want to rev past 7K on a stock bottom end.

http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Cu...ML/200-203.asp

range 2200>7200

You'll not necessarily loose power but you will loose usable power.
That cam should peak around 6300 or so. When you get it you will see how much advance is on it, if you want to bring the powerband down more, you can advance it some more (but no more than 6* total).

That said, a similar cam on XE-R lobe will make more usable power.

A Futral F11 checks in at the same duration and will make very good usable power on Cam Motion lobes.
